Southern Africa Yoga Safaris have adopted a typically “yogic” attitude towards meals.
We feel very strongly about the “ahimsa” concept,(which is the Hindu ethic of non-violence) and hence the vegan meals.

We are busy putting a recipe book together with the name of “Conscience-Free Cuisine”™ as a result of all the guests requests. Here are a few of the recipes you will find in the book and experience when on our retreats.

A secondary benefit of this way of eating , is the de-toxification process. The colon is cleansed and leaves you feeling energized. As with any changes we make, they are not without some unpleasant side effects. You can expect withdrawal symptoms such as headaches and muscular aches and pains, it therefore helps to prepare for the de-tox slowly, by eliminating coffee, sugar and fizzy drinks a few days before the retreat. The levels of discomfort are as a result of the amount of chemicals, fast foods and caffeine in your body.

The yoga postures help to speed up this elimination process and make it more tolerable. It is recommended that you try at least one 10 day de-toxification yoga retreat each year. This allows the digestive system, the most demanding of all systems, to take a well earned rest and the other organs are then given a chance to re-juvenate.
